It is currently estimated that 50% of Poland is occupied by agricultural land, mostly made up of family farms, so it goes without saying that farming is an essential sector in the Polish economy. To revitalize rural life, it was clear that a new approach was needed, concentrating efforts on developing local products and regional specialties. That approach became Dagmara Bienkowska’s mission.
A development consultant, Bienkowska has many achievements to her credit. Among many others, the residents of Zegocina, a small rural municipality with numerous family farms, owe her a debt of gratitude. In 1996, to revitalize the area’s economy and promote pride in the community, she focused on the development potential of local products and regional dishes. Motivated by her ideas, the residents of Zegocina published a book of their traditional recipes.
