Dener Jose GIOVANINI

Solution / RENCTAS

RENCTAS, the national network to fight the trafficking of wild animals is an non-governmental organization working towards the reduction of the illegal trade of species in Brazil. An expanding activity with serious consequences, trafficking attracts numerous impoverished individuals looking to escape their difficult circumstances. In addition to the financial aspects, this illegal trade also causes the death of approximately 90% of the captured animals even before they arrive at their destinations.

RENCTAS, founded in 1999 by Dener José Giovanini, now has volunteers in many countries. With public support, the organization offers sustainable business alternatives to traffickers who sometimes trade rare animals for as little as the price of a bag of rice. RENCTAS gives them the opportunity to participate in various projects, the products of which can then be sold to businesses who support the cause. For the organization, it is about preserving threatened species while fighting rural poverty.
