Founded in 2001 by Singapore native Jack Sim, the World Toilet Organization is a global non-profit organization committed to improving sanitation conditions worldwide. Its members are also determined to break the taboos surrounding the subject of toilets in order to discuss it more openly to ensure widespread access to sanitation services.

Having grown from its initial 15 members, the World Toilet Organization is now the leader in its field and is active in 57 countries. It has been recognized with numerous honours over the years including Social Entrepreneur of the Year by the Schwab Foundation in 2006. In 2001, to commemorate its creation, November 19th was declared “World Toilet Day”.
