Since the earliest days of European colonization of North America, the indigenous peoples have watched their lands be developed and exploited without having any say in decisions. As they had always subsisted on the natural resources around them, they were forced to change their lifestyles while settlers and businesses, attracted by those same resources, extracted the wealth from their lands.
Today, native peoples are still rarely consulted when large companies decide to harvest or mine natural resources from the land or build polluting factories nearby. However, in recent years, some companies have shown that everyone involved benefits when a respectful collaboration is established between the peoples of different cultures.
